The USO partnered with the Brooke Army Medical Center BAMC, Soldier Recovery Unit to bring over 100 wounded, ill, or injured service members and soldiers from the Texas Army National Guard to the 16th Annual Seats for Soldiers event at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas. This annual event honors service members with courtside seats at the Dallas Mavericks game donated by season ticket holders, flights courtesy of American Airlines, dinner, and a meet and greet with athletes. American Airlines provided a charter flight from San Antonio to Dallas with American’s pilots and flight attendants volunteering their time for the special flight. USO treated service members to lunch and snacks for the travel and USO volunteers provided a hero’s welcome at DFW. After a two-year hiatus, due to COVID, the USO was eager to provide this wonderful opportunity again. Service members participated in fun games and competitions during the time outs, quarter, and half-time breaks such as luggage push, basketball Connect4, and sandbag toss. One of the wounded, ill, and injured amputees won the sandbag toss and won a basketball signed by the Mavericks. His quote, “I can’t believe this night. It was the most amazing event! I was nervous to get out there but thought, why not? I can’t wait to get home to share this basketball with my son.” This event honoring service members and thanking them for their service and sacrifice is just one of many ways the USO helps keep them connected to each other and the community. Events such as these would not be possible without generous partners and community support. #USO #AmericanAirlines #DallasMavs
